Priyanka Boro, a girl with cleft palate was born at a government hospital in Nalbari 77 Km from Guwahati. After 15 days, her mother realized that her little girl was unable to breastfeed properly and whatever she intakes, was coming out from her nose. When her father got to know that, he informed his mother and his friend about this problem. His friend further pointed out that she might face difficulty in speaking.
At the age of one month, when she came to hospital with her mother, Pinki Boro (19 yrs), and father Thaneshwar Boro (21 yrs) for vaccination, she started crying in the hospital. Then Maloti Haloi an ASHA activist saw the girl and identified that the girl is having a Cleft Palate. She instructed some procedure to keep the girl healthy and further directed to our Guwahati Comprehensive Cleft Care
Centre for the corrective surgery. When Priyanka was around 9 months old, her parents brought her to GC4 for the first time. As she was underweight, she was not fit for the surgery and was under the nutritional programme, her parents were counseled on nutritional aspects and they returned back home.
After waiting for more than a year, when she was brought to our centre for the second time she was found fit for the surgery. Priyanka had her surgery successfully done on 6th August, 2015 . Dr. Amit Sahoo was her surgeon and Dr.Raju Ghosh was the anesthesist . This surgery has brought in smile to her parent’s faces and the 14,000 Smile stone for our Guwahati Comprehensive Cleft Care Centre.
